Jacob Norris here, for those that remember me haha (wave) Happy New Year everyone and I hope you're all doing well in 2024. It's already February now, but it's not too late to still offer up hopes for a happy new year.

NEW TUTORIALS COMING SOON (FOR FREE)

I thought I'd send an email out just to give everyone a few updates, since I haven't been posting as much on ArtStation or social media these days. Been very busy! For everyone following me for my tutorial work, there should actually be a tutorial coming to ArtStation Learning sometime in the near future. More info once it is officially announced. I don't know an exact release date yet, but I'm very excited to share it with you all once the time comes!

I will also be release some free tutorial content and videos on the Sierra Division Youtube channel this year, as well as some of our team members. Sharing a lot of our workflow and processes on the team. Checkout our 2023 Recap Blog Post below for our Youtube Link and Social Links. We just released out first Tutorial from Niels Couvreur just this week with some tips on getting started in Fusion 360 and CAD workflows.

SIERRA DIVISION NEWS

It's been a year since I first sent out the email to you all in 2023 letting everyone know that I started a Game Studio for Outsourcing and 3D Asset Creation and wow, what a year it has been! The team at Sierra Division has grown from a humble few of us into an incredible crew of 15+ already, with a few more working with us as part-timers. I wanted to personally say thank you to everyone that has been supporting us. To all of you that followed us on ArtStation, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, and to everyone reaching out to work with us, there has been so much interest from everyone, thank you!

A lot of our work is still under NDA of course, but we are hoping to show some more work soon from some of the amazing collaborations we've had with studios already and some of the internal work we've been doing at the studio. Stay tuned!

THE INDUSTRY LATELY

I also wanted to extend my sympathies to all of you that are out of work and lost jobs in 2023 and now even in the start of the year in 2024. There has been so much turmoil throughout the games community and the art community with emerging technologies and economic hardships. We've been very lucky so far at Sierra Division to have a fairly stable work environment. We're not quickly growing, but being very modest and humble in our operations. Supporting who we could and were lucky enough to hire a few, but of course we are still small and can only do so much.

I have been through some very difficult situations in my past as well and I know how difficult it can be to stay positive. Keep your head up and keep moving forward. Going through dark times, it's important to continue surrounding yourself with positive people as much as you can and reaching out to others in your community if you're struggling. Take the time that you need for yourself to cope with the situation, but know that there are people to help, you're not alone and it isn't a burden to ask for help. It's been amazing to see so many artists sharing links to portfolios and sharing friends profiles who were laid off. I've been in this community for over 15 years now and although it is grown so much and changed over time, I still love this community and the awesome people that are a part of it.

If it is helpful for anyone also, I had made another one of my Tutorials, the "Wood Planks" tutorial free some time ago, but never officially announced it. The tutorials are not as new and shiny as they once were, but hopefully there are still some useful nuggets in there for folks. That means that once again, all of the tutorials are my Gumroad are now free. It will continue to stay this way even if new tutorials are released. Keep yourself busy, make some more badass personal artwork, and say hi to people in your local Discords. We're in this together.
